Last year our school band went and played in a parade. Does Disney have to invite you or can you sign up to go?How do you get your high school choir a trip to Disney World?
If it's for a special event like a parade you can't just sign up; however, if it's for a competition you just have to sign up to enter. When I was in high school my band entered Orlando Musicfest held at a local college and Disney World (we marched through Hollywood Studios, which was MGM back then, but not in a parade; it was just us and the one other band that entered) and we were able to get good deals on our trip because it was such a large group. If it's something your choir director would be interested in you should speak to him/her about it, but it's probably too late for this school year. I know when my high school band went Orlando Musicfest was held during late March so our band director entered several months in advance, then the plan was presented to parents at a meeting at the beginning of the school year, then we spent the months up to our trip doing fundraisers. It's a huge ordeal that takes most of the school year to prepare for, and we had actually decided a year in advance we were going. How do you get your high school choir a trip to Disney World?
Yes...and Yes. Both Disney Land and disney world have this event called disney magic music days. It runs from spring to summer and is for school performing arts groups. They have workshops and competitions for choir, orchestra, band, and drama. Each year the location rotates between the two. The disney website has lots of information and resources for this this event, for students, teachers, and parents. In order to get in, the teacher must sign up and fill out a small questionnaire. Disney selects those schools out of that and requests an audition tape of the group playing. this is done well in advance, the spring before the group wants to play. After that, the tape is sent in and disney selects those they like. The schools are notified and they begin preparations. Lots of hard work is pored into it for the teachers and students. Haggling over air lines, hotels, buses, and fundraisers are only part of it.
This year, all of the performing arts departments at my school are going. That is nearly 200 kids! I can't tell you how long our band director was on the phone many times during class making phone calls to organize it. It is not cheap either, even for a group our size, the whole package is 1500 dollars. Now, we are flying from seattle to orlando, so airline prices might have a lot to do with it, but, our food and extra stuff isn't covered.
Anyhow, enough with the rambling, to answer your question, yes you sign up, but then from the people that sign up, disney invites certain schools.
I hope that helped!

Disney has to invite you.
Ask the band director about how they got the invitation.
