How does Disney set off fireworks in the rain?

We were at Disney a while ago and it started raining late at night, about when the fireworks would start. We all thought they would be canceled, but they still shot them off. How do they do that in the rain? How does Disney set off fireworks in the rain?
Professional firework shows are done with "electronic matches," not so much with fuses anymore. So, the thing that lights them is just electricity and enclosed powders.

As far as the shells that go up in the air -- like the other person said -- as long as they are kept dry prior to shooting them into the air, they will work, because fireworks are designed with a special thing in mind... they are composed of a fuel and an oxidizer.

the fuel might be powdered aluminum or charcoal (different colors require different fuels). the oxidizer is something that when it gets hot enough, it releases oxygen. remember that the only reason why water makes fire not work is because it blocks oxygen in the atmosphere from getting to the reacting chemicals.

pyrotechnic compositions INCLUDE the oxygen in the chemical reactions they undergo when they burn. so, the water does nothing. many fuses burn underwater. cherry bombs used to be flushed down toilets and used to blow the toilets out of the floor. how did that happen??? because the oxygen the fire needed to burn was inside the actual molecules of the reacting chemicals -- being covered in water and away from atmospheric oxygen was NO PROBLEM.

hope that helps!

oh yeh... road flares have no problem working in the rain. look around you, and you will see fire in the rain all the time. one thing they always have in common is an oxidizer. How does Disney set off fireworks in the rain?
It's perfectly possible to shoot off fireworks in the rain, so long as you can keep them dry prior to lighting them. They burn hot enough to stay lit in the rain once they get going.
