At disney world magic kingdom in Florida, there is a show called the Monstors Inc. Laugh Floor. It is a cinema screen with 3D characters on, but they can interact and talk to the audience. How do they do this? They can have conversations with audience members but they are cartoons like you would see at the cinema. How do they do the Monstors Inc show at Disney World?
The method that they use is called "Digital Puppetry". It's kind of like the muppets, only digital. A professional puppeteer is hidden behind the screen, and is able to digitally move the puppets (the monsters in this case.) The person who goes around the audience w/the microphone does not control the monsters, or voice them, at all. His job is to find interesting cast members to interact with. He may pick people who are dressed in a funny shirt, who are celebrating, or outgoing children. It's his job to pick out these people, and approach them w/the microphone. How do they do the Monstors Inc show at Disney World?
They have a cast member on the mic that can see the whole audience. He is rigged to some sensors that control the character's movement on screen. Same thing with the Turtle Talk with Crush attraction at Epcot.
