As early as you can in June, or as late as you can in August. In general, crowds start picking up around Memorial Day in May, and then they start dropping off in mid-August. Actually, end of August is priced as value-season and frequently has some good promotions offered. The weather will be miserable, though. June can be slightly better.
Avoid July at all costs!
I have traveled to Disney world both in July and August. The temperatures and humidity are extremely high with temperatures reaching around 34c and lows of 23c through out the whole of the summer but with plenty of water, breaks and sunscreen, it will be no problem for the kids. A big factor to consider is that july is a far more wet month than August, so if you would prefer dryer days in disney, I would go for your trip in August. The crowds in disney world are going to be high at any time of the summer but it is usually particularly high in July, so I would recommend for you to go in late August as the crowds will be lowest then. Also I thought I might mention disney world are having a promotion of discounts on selected hotels and free dining from the 1st of August to the 18th of november.

These are some recommended times to go to Disney World:
January, after school starts back following the holidays.
Late April, after spring break, until Memorial Day. This period includes Epcot's Flower and Garden Festival, when you can enjoy free concerts with name bands from the sixties and seventies.
Late August: many schools in the southeast are back in session, and crowds are typically less. Also, resort prices drop somewhat. Watch out, though, for earlier park closings!
When our daughter was in grade school we could take her out of school for a couple of days. We loved going in October %26amp; November for Halloween %26amp; the International Food %26amp; Wine Festival. Once she got to Middle School we had to travel in the Summer. We've been in July %26amp; August. Both months are VERY hot. We'd have to take breaks in the air conditioning %26amp; pool. The crowds aren't as bad towards the end of August, because the Florida kids are back in school. Since our daughter is in college now we could go in May/June.
