When is the best time to see christmas lights at disney?

I will be in Florida from December 17th through January 5th. I would really like to see the christmas lights at disney lit up at night. I want the whole christmas experience, but not the tons of people on christmas day. When is the best time to see them? Any other suggestions of cool or different things to see around christmas time in orlando?

Early December is the best. During your time frame, every single day will be a zoo. If you just wrap you mind around that fact, and stay as patient as possible, you'll enjoy the experience better. You can enjoy huge crowds if you embrace why they're there along side you. They too want a magical experience, and something to share with their kids. When is the best time to see christmas lights at disney?
Hey -- it's Disney World on Christmas Break -- it will be impossible to be there without a lot of people being around. With that said, I'd go as far in advance as you can and midweek, or wait until after January 1 -- haven't tried it in Florida, but it helps at Disneyland in Calif.

the earlier in your stay you go the better. from december 21st through january 1st is literally the busiest time of the entire year with it becoming increasingly busier the closer to new years eve that you get. and its still a mad house on jan 1st, 2nd, and 3rd cuz kids won't go back until the 4th this year. and the xmas celebrations end the sunday after new years so thats jan 3rd 2010.

i would try to see the lights and decorations on the 17th, 18th, 19th, or 20th.
I would recommend that you go to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party at the Magic Kingdom! You'll be able to see lots of lights and "snow" on Main Street!

It has a separate admission, so you can't use any park hoppers, but it is a lot cheaper than a one day pass.

It will probably still be busy though. I'd recommend that you go to a party that's not on a Friday or Saturday since the locals like to go at that time.

If you stay on property (at a Disney Hotel). you'll get Extra Magic Hours. Meaning that you can enter one hour before the official opening or stay 3 hours after the official closing. So, only Disney Hotel guests are allowed at those times!
